We started Naturally Granola because delicious, chunky granola didn't exist yet

Back in 2015, we went looking for a granola that ticked three boxes: it had to taste genuinely delicious, it had to be properly chunky, and it had to be actually good for you. We couldn't find one.

That first box mattered most. Delicious is the whole reason we started this. Not "fine for breakfast," not "acceptable considering it's healthy," but the kind of granola you actually look forward to eating. Everything else, the chunk, the health side, was in service of that. We just weren't willing to sacrifice taste to get either of them.

Every bag on the shelf seemed to force a choice. There was granola with real texture, big, satisfying clusters, but it usually got there with a heavy hand on sugar and oil, and the flavor often felt like an afterthought to the crunch. There was "healthy" granola, light on sugar and full of good intentions, but bland, chalky, and sad, coming out of the bag as flat little pebbles or worse, dust. Nobody seemed to have figured out how to make something that actually tasted incredible, while also being properly chunky and something you could feel good about eating every morning.

So we decided to make it ourselves.

The gap we saw

Taste was the first casualty in most of the granola we tried. Brands leaned so hard into "healthy" positioning that flavor got treated as a nice-to-have, something to tolerate rather than enjoy. On the other end, the genuinely tasty granolas usually got there through sugar and oil doing the heavy lifting, not through the ingredients themselves.

Texture had the same problem. Most granola on the market was baked hot and fast, stirred constantly through production to keep it from burning, which is efficient, but it's also exactly what breaks up clusters before they can properly form and flattens out flavor in the process. What you were left with was neither delicious nor chunky: fine for pouring over yogurt, unsatisfying to actually eat.

We didn't think any of these trade-offs should exist. Delicious, chunky, and healthy aren't opposites. They just take more care to get right at the same time.

What we set out to build

We started baking with all three in mind from day one: real flavor built from real ingredients, real clusters you can bite into, without needing to lean on excess sugar or oil to get either. That meant baking low and slow, roasting nuts properly instead of rushing them, using natural sweeteners like date syrup instead of refined sugar, and resisting the urge to stir the clusters apart just to speed up production.

It took real trial and error to get a granola that tasted this good, held together in real clusters, and stayed genuinely nutritious. That combination is still the thing we care most about getting right, batch after batch.

Where that got us

That original approach is still what goes into every batch of our Signature Granola today: the same deep, toasty flavor, the same chunky clusters, the same commitment to real ingredients over shortcuts. It's also the recipe that went on to earn 2 stars from the Great Taste Awards, judged blind, on flavor alone, which still means the most to us of anything we've won.

We started Naturally Granola because the granola we actually wanted to eat didn't exist yet. So we built it.
