Selfcare and nutrition

Although it does not seem so at the moment, winter is quietly approaching!

Energy levels drop, it's dark longer. Days get shorter and temperatures hit our mood.

Ideally, we want to spend every second of the day under a blanket on the couch with fluffy socks and a big mug of chocolate milk. And while this certainly can and should be done, today I'll give you some tips to get through the winter and take extra good care of yourself during these cold winter days.

Hello winter

Ideally, we want to spend every second of the day under a blanket on the couch with fluffy socks and a big mug of chocolate milk. And while this certainly can and should be done, today I'll give you some tips to get through the winter and take extra good care of yourself during these cold winter days.

  1. Stay in touch with your body.

When it gets colder, our bodies actually need extra care. Our skin gets drier, lips get crusty, ... but also our body naturally often starts wanting to create an extra "protective layer" to survive. Therefore, it is normal that your body may change a bit in winter. This is why it is important to stay in touch and look at your winter body with love. This by looking at it with gentleness and love, but also feeding it with the extra nutrients it needs. By taking care of your skin, rubbing body cream on it, ... you ensure both a soft skin during the winter and stay in touch with your changing body. Win win!

  2. Keep moving.

Do this in a way that feels fun and comfortable for you. Go on a nice winter hike, go ice skating, do some yoga, ... Take it easy. From our history, it is normal to do less strenuous workouts in the winter because our bodies want to conserve energy against the cold. Go with the flow and feel what kind of movement your body needs.

  3. Extra sleep

With shorter days and longer nights, your body starts producing melatonin at an earlier time. Melatonin is the sleep hormone that makes you sleepy when it gets dark.

Again, listening to your body is the message, and when you feel you need more sleep during the winter, go for it! Crawl under the covers a little earlier, start your evening routine an hour earlier and enjoy those extra moments of sleep!

Just like the seasons in nature, the seasons of our bodies also change. Our bodies are made to change, adapt and survive. So trust in your body's signals because they will show you the way!
